FLAT-COATED RETRIEVER  The Flat Coated Retriever was developed in England during the mid to late 1800´s. The Flat Coated Retriever probably descended from a combination of the St.John´s Newfoundland, the Labrador and Setters. The Flat Coated Retriever became popular among British gamekeepers as a friendly, hard working companion. The flatcoated has a very cheerful,alert and intelligent personality. They reguire a close relationship with their owners due to their intense loyalty. They are not intended to perform as watchdogs. They are excellent with children although their size may be intimidating to small children. Flat Coated must be introduced to obedience training at a young age.As they are intelligent and sensitive, they respond best to "positive enforcement" such as praise. |
